Last week was full of babies and this sweet little girl was another one to make my heart melt. She looked like a little doll with cherry red lips and dark skin and lashes. She required almost no editing her skin was so perfect! Mom and dad brought along a blanket that was a family heirloom and I just so happened to buy a yellow pot a few weeks back that matched it perfectly. I love the challenge of creatively incorporating keepsakes into the sets we think up, and I adore the results here! I also had the chance to use a brand new wrap that I recently ordered. We tried it on baby C earlier in the week but he was just a bit to long to curl into it. Baby D turned out to be just the right size. Add a flower and it was just perfection! One of the best parts of my job is being able to share in the wonderful news of families as they grow and capture some element of the joy in those special moments for them. It has been especially uplifting this month as I have received so many emails from expecting parents entering the newborn session giveaway. So many of my clients are expecting their second or third babies and I have had the joy of being one of the first to find out! Families experience hardship as well, and while it is often hard to watch some one you care about go through a difficult time, I hope that my work can bring them a smile that will help them through in some small way.

This sweet little girl came to visit me in the studio last week and she was such a joy to photograph. You may remember her as a newborn. Last July when I photographed her, she was 6 weeks old and was my tiniest newborn to date at only 6lbs. We actually missed mom's maternity session because she went into labor 6 weeks early and baby C was born at only 4lbs. Mom and dad have had to be very strong this year. When C came into the studio before the Holidays for her 6 month session, she had a really tough time. Mom knew something was wrong and endlessly advocated for her daughter's health. Well, it turned out that C was in fact having some health problems that were causing her to be so uncomfortable. Now with the help of a temporary feeding tube being inserted into her tummy, baby C is thriving. On top of that mom has had her own health difficulties (and who wouldn't with all of the stress she experienced) including having had her gallbladder removed in the fall. After December's session, I told mom that I would be happy to have baby C back into the studio for a complimentary session so we could capture her true personality when she was feeling better. I can't begin to explain the difference I saw in her. She was bright and happy and on the move! She laughed and smiled and ate like a champ! I hate to sound cliche, but you could seriously see the sparkle in her eyes. She was beautiful, inside and out, and I adored capturing her joy.

With a roller coaster of a year behind them, mom and dad received some news that they (and their doctors) never thought they would hear. I'm thrilled to be able to share it with you, but I'll let the photos do the talking!

My first newborn of the year visited today. The whole family braved the snow to keep me company in the studio. Mom, dad, big sister (who was a most fabulous model), and even aunty! They were all so much fun to work with. Baby L was only 6 days old, but ate more than any baby I've seen! She was a teeny little girl at under 7 pounds so perhaps she was just trying to catch up to her big sister :0) Even though she ate much more than she slept, we still managed some adorable shots. I had a very hard time choosing for the preview. I have many new favorites from this session. Enjoy your preview family. I can't wait to show you the rest!

Remember this little doll face?  I last visited this family back in July when baby J was only a few weeks old.  Today the family came to see me for J's 6 month session.  Where does the time go?!  We had so much fun today and I think we got some great shots.  How could we not?  She is seriously cute!  Enjoy your preview and Happy 2010 everyone!  See you in the new year.  4 newborns in the first week!

I had two adorable baby girls come visit my studio yesterday and here is the first. You may recognize her gorgeous blue eyes from her 3 month shoot. This time she and mom came to me at the new studio and I am so happy they did. We were able to play with so many fun props. Boy were we creative with the tinsel!! Baby I was so easy to work with and I had fun catching up with mom as well. There are too many favorites to choose from for this session so I stuck with the holiday shots so that we can get those holiday cards out. Next weekend is the absolute deadline for holiday card orders.... which means I'll be swamped this week with design work! Enjoy your preview mom. Thanks for a fantastic morning!

Why do boys always get blessed with the most amazing lashes??? This little man was so much fun to chase around my studio and those big brown eyes made me melt! 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 years old is, in my opinion, the most challenging age to shoot. They have stranger anxiety and take a while to warm up, they don't sit still for more than a nanosecond, and they only last about 30 minutes before they tire of the camera completely. My daughter falls into this age group now and it takes a whole lot of trickery to get a decent shot of her. (No, I am never above bribery) But when you can catch a portrait of a child that age, it is truly magic. This little man was no exception. I absolutely love these portraits and am so excited to show you the rest mom and dad. Enjoy your preview!

The Heidi Hope Studio. Opening November 1st 2009 in Warwick RI.

The Heidi Hope Studio is opening November 1st and I couldn't be more excited. I am so thrilled to share this space with all of you that I am offering a promotion to my home clients. If you have already booked a home session in the coming year, you can move it to the studio and receive $50 in prints (plus no travel fee!). I am in the process of solidifying my new schedule so you must act soon! Let me know before October 7th that you would like to move your session and receive your $50 print credit towards any sitting!

A bit about the studio:

The Heidi Hope Studio will be opening in November 2009. It is a warm and home-like natural light studio where clients can relax and make themselves at home. Client sessions are always booked with plenty of extra time so that they never feel rushed. The studio is open by appointment only so there will never be anyone else in the studio when you are. We just sit back and wait for that perfect moment. Forget the department store studio experience! I feel that the comfort of my subjects is just the first step in capturing a meaningful and intimate portrait, allowing true personality to shine through. There are toys and snacks for babies, comfortable nursing areas for new mothers, and of course plenty of beauty to take in! Leave everything at home. I have thought of everything parents could need and it is all right in the studio.
